WHAT IS VOTER PURGING?

Voter purges are the process of cleaning up voter rolls by deleting names from registration lists through an outdated and inconsistent address verification process. Rather than appropriately removing names as voters die, move, or otherwise become ineligible, the result is a use-it-or-lose-it system often kicks eligible voters off the rolls with very little warning.

WHY

WHY

In an effort to maintain accurate registered voter lists, the National Voter Rights Act is meant to keep the Arkansas Secretary of State compliant but there are inconsistencies in how voters are removed.

The process also doesn’t provide sufficient notice to voters since the mailouts tend to be easy to miss for Arkansans.

WHO

WHO

Under the National Voter Registration Act, if you do not respond to a notice from a local election official and miss two consecutive federal elections, you can be removed from the registered voter list.

With that said, inconsistencies have shown that voters have been removed after only the initial notice.
